I think the newfangled next-gen could still stand to learn a few things from the Xbox workhorse -- even if this is the platform's last triple-A title.- GameSpy

The physics provide a near-perfect blend of arcade and simulation sensibilities: It's not so over-the-top that it's still believable, but it's also not so realistic that you'll need an intimate level of knowledge about tires, engines, and gear boxes.- GameSpy

One of the most polished and entertaining titles of 2003... A stellar game, one that dares to venture beyond the standard shooter formula and pulls it off with style.- GameSpy

Through a couple of years and multiple revisions, Sonic Team has taken a game that was incredibly solid and enjoyable at its outset and polished and added to it; there is so much to do (although there's still not enough to see, a common complaint with PSO) that you'll have no difficulty signing on for marathon sessions.- GameSpy

It's the online component of the game that places you down in front of your TV, and refuses to let you leave for days at a time.- GameSpy

A very strong and well-themed real-time strategy title that shouldn't be missed. A fun single-player and multiplayer experience with plenty of fresh gameplay and original ideas, despite its adherence to the original Age of Empires formula.- GameSpy

As a PC port however, it's somewhat disturbing that these issues weren't resolved. It all comes down to the apparent laziness in fixing the shortcomings of the PSX version.- GameSpy

It ranks right up there with recent classics such as "Baldur's Gate," "Fallout," "Arcanum," and "Planescape: Torment" in terms of sheer enjoyment, and is a game every role-playing fan needs to own.- GameSpy

Most importantly, it does what it does well, and except for the lack of a printed manual and more help for learning strategies, is a worthy tribute to the lost Jane's Combat Simulations brand.- GameSpy

The massive amount of unit and race variety coupled with an aggressive (albeit at times quirky) AI, full editing capabilities, a boatload of spells, engaging combat, and rock-solid game mechanics make for a strategy game that is not only better than the original, but arguably the best turn-based strategy game released this year.- GameSpy
