In taking away the screens and screens of dialog and the need to manage an overcrowded inventory or complex skill point system it boils itself down into the essence of what a good action RPG and portable title should be: tight controls, a well told story and the ability to get in, smack some monsters around and get out.

It's unclear whether there will be more to Lume later (as the closing credits hint at a continuation of the story and a possible "part two"), but I'll be first in line if there is. This is a very light, charming little game that deserves an hour or two of your time. Just be sure to have a walkthrough ready for when you get to the crazy combination lock puzzle.

Puzzle Dimension is one of those puzzle games that is perfect for fans of the genre. It's full of charm and challenge, and some levels are so difficult that it's an incredible rush when they're successfully solved. This is not a game for those looking for a casual mind teaser, but it's just about perfect for those who prefer the difficulty level turned all the way up to eleven.

The game isn’t flawless, but it is solid where it counts and does drive the series forward if only by a small margin.

The gameplay mixes up peddle-to-the-metal action with enough thinking stealth elements to provide a fun challenge.

A success despite a few frustrations that pop up along the way and is a must buy for both fans of the Creative Assembly’s previous efforts as well as strategy fans in general.

While the game doesn’t deviate too much from the tried and true formula that has made the series such a hit in Japan, it still delivers a game experience worth playing.

NBA Jam: On Fire Edition's online, downloadable release and lessened price point will make it an easier pill to swallow for budget gamers and make it a no-brainer for fans of the series. It's the defininitive version of NBA Jam.

Theresia: Dear Emile does a great job of providing old school adventure elements with striking visuals, great sound and a breadcrumb approach to storytelling that will have you up far longer at night than you had planned, as you work to uncover more memories, or just see what's in the next room.

Civilization 5 remains a threat to my productivity and household happiness. Though not quite the complete triumph it could be, Firaxis has shown how a twenty year old design can still be tweaked and improved in the hands of a team unafraid to break things in the interest of progress.

It’s unfair to criticize the game too much for being just a Souped Up World Cup version of FIFA 10. It’s really more than that. Yes, you can make the argument that dropping 120 bucks for two similar soccer games in a six month stretch is asking a tad much, but when the actual World Cup starts play in June and you want to get in on the act you’re going to want a copy of this game—and EA Sports knows it.

One of the better games based on a licensed property that I've played this year on the Xbox and while I wish there were more characters and some kind of sand box battle mode, I really can't complain about what the game does offer because there's a lot of game to be played even after going through it multiple times on several different difficulty levels.

The game isn’t completely mind blowing, but it does very few things wrong and is easily the best release of the series on the DS platform to date.

The handheld format suits the Bit.Trip beats well, and although these games are available elsewhere the 3DS package is definitely one of the better and most concise ways to experience them regardless of a couple of omissions.

Despite some minor issues (and a couple that aren't so minor), Max Payne 3 still manages to be a first-class third-person shooter and is thus one of the better games of the year. More importantly, it's a welcome return for one of the shooter genre's better series. The years may not have been kind of Max, but it seems he hasn't missed a beat.
