It has an excellent premise – hacking, revenge and conspiracies – but it then proceeds to not do much with it. The story and gameplay starts to blend into the same generic formula we have seen in other open world action adventure games. This doesn’t mean Watch Dogs is a bad game; it is a decent well-made game that is also just (here comes that word again) generic.

Although The Last Federation has a lot going for it, the fact that it forces you to make choices every three seconds in combat is its Achilles heel.

As it is Life of Pixel is a pretty standard affair throughout. There is the odd gravity flip switch or jet pack but they’re few and far between. Something for the future perhaps? I would certainly be keen to see what else Super Icon offer up in the future.

I’d love to see a patch for the game that makes the single player mode a bit fairer and a tutorial “thing” to make it an awesome little game. As it stands right now though, World Soccer is still deserving of your time despite its shortcomings.

Yet in the light of some truly sickening behaviour by so-called ‘gamers’, a title that looks to humanise the affected should be applauded.

There’s a lot of cool and interesting things there, but it never moves beyond a tech demo. I can appreciate the work that has gone into it, especially on the audio side, but the experience on the whole felt a bit barren and empty.

This is an action adventure game filled with zombies, poor punnery and a lack of feeling. I loved Escape Dead Island. It is short, with under 5 hours of playtime to complete the story, but I think it is definitely one to look out for.

If you are a fan of the WW2 strategy game genre then I would highly recommend this game as the multiplayer holds many hours of entertainment. The biggest let down for the game is the single player. However, I found myself glued to the seat with such a strong multiplayer, and I can see many people enjoying it.

Taken as a fun Friday night of gaming, it’ll give you an excellent horror fix, leaving you shaken and strangely exhausted from the episodes of sustained suspense.

Overall I enjoyed the core battle system and upgrading of characters in BlackGuards 2, however the story was really mediocre and the characters just seemed pretty lifeless.

Even after you strip away the high level of fanservice and questionable theme; for every aspect that I enjoyed such as the characters and voiceover, there were others that marred my experience such as the repetitive combat, irritating camera and repetitive mission structure. For those that can ignore these misgivings, there is an enjoyable game waiting to be played.

A lack of real time multiplayer and repetitive music and visuals cut down this overall very fun arcade-y racer.

A strange curio that offers something different, and what it gets right should be applauded.

Not a game that you’d play at length every day, but certainly one you’d practice on until you are confident enough to challenge your friends.

Disgaea 4 is the best game I’ve ever hated.

The writing is by far the most impressive thing about the game, but leaves you wondering what might have been. The deep character progression system leaves enough of an rpg aftertaste that you find yourself wishing you could explore Mars a bit more, talk to more NPCs and explore more options in those dialogues.

Despite highlighting and isolating my complete lack of coordination, I had a lot of fun with the simple, solid and rewarding fundamental gameplay that KickBeat is, ultimately, all about.

Despite my personally not enjoying this game there were only two things that really bothered me about it. They both tie in very nicely together though so this should be quick.

At only £9.99 retail you do get a decent amount of entertainment for your buck, but ultimately Water Park Tycoon will disappoint you with it’s lack of content.

It requires some mastery of its quick pace and barrage of enemies to fully enjoy the game. Due to its repetitive nature and its design primarily targeting those with a strong arcade past – particularly platformers – I would recommend this game, but I feel it is targeted at a small market.

It’s difficult to recommend Light in its current state. It’s a fun game, but its so short and so easy that it doesn’t remotely justify its price.

The game could be so much more with a little extra work though. The combat and poor voice acting are just too much for me to seriously recommend the game.

Its dated art style definitely put even me off quite a bit and its mechanics are solid and well designed but perhaps a bit too simple and locked into the history of its name. That said, underneath its unimpressive exterior is a decent platformer that offers up a reasonably meaty experience and no doubt a nostalgia trip for players who grew up on DOS and Amiga games.

At its core, The Crew is one of the most ambitious games of the year. The problem is that the combination of bad design choices, poor performance and a certain lack of refinement also make it one of the biggest disappointments of the year.

If it had better platforming mechanics and less frustration, I would recommend it. As it stands, I can only recommend it to people who genuinely feel NES was the golden age of gaming.

I didn’t find the main (virtually only) character endearing, and that took a lot out of my experience with BBA. It shows glimmers of something incredible. I’d be very interested to see future title’s from the developer.

It’s saddening that all of the effort the creators have put in to building such a quicky, charming visual style has gone to waste with such barebones gameplay, but the game’s low price and arcade-esque stylings may make it a nice little timekiller for some.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch is a good time filler, to put on whist you have a spare fifteen twenty minutes. But I wouldn’t recommend paying the full asking price for something thats gimmick wears off pretty fast and leaves you longing for “those good parts”.
