For many years, Hollow Knight held the crown of the indie scene, but its successor has arrived to improve on what was already unbeatable. Hollow Knight: Silksong stands as one of the most refined, creative, profound, and elevated works in the history of video games, presenting itself as a leading candidate for Best Game of the Year and clinging to its predecessor's scepter to establish itself as, if we can still define it that way, the best indie game in history. Team Cherry has created an adventure for posterity that excels in everything and languishes in nothing, ultimately making a statement in an industry whose blockbusters could only dream of achieving such a level of divinity.

The Last of Us 2 is a masterpiece that not only manages to stand toe to toe with the first entry, it even surpasses it. The story of TLOU2 introduces a narrative concept which is very different from what we are used to, and it keeps on surprising us again and again. Furthermore, its landscapes, gameplay and visuals will forever remain with the players as the highest expression of videogames ever achieved on the PlayStation 4.

Starfield is Bethesda's best game in a very long time. Its ambition knows no boundaries, yet it still leans on Bethesda's iconic craftsmanship in RPG building, this time around soaring through the vastness of space. Final Fantasy VII Remake still is the masterpiece it once was. Time goes on, but pieces like this one stay alive forever. Square Enix has managed to evolve the game while maintaining its essence, and even though there are some mistakes along the way, Final Fantasy VII Remake remains one of the best games in the current generation and, of course, the current year. It is no small task to put together both past and present, and Square Enix has achieved a level of perfection that we would never have imagined.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is everything users want and desire. A perfectly orchestrated masterpiece by FromSoftware that leaves me with the strange feeling of wondering, is this really a DLC? The added content and the new map have left me awestruck in every sense, as well as the game's duration, which will vary for each player. But I wouldn't be exaggerating if I told you that thirty hours can easily go by if you go all out. In short, although I think it's all clear, SOET is everything we could expect from a DLC and much more. The quantity and originality of the added content are insane, so the final question would be, can a DLC be the GOTY? I think it can.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is one of those experiences that redefine your concept of what an RPG can be. What Sandfall Interactive has achieved in their debut is simply astonishing: a narrative that captivates you from the first second with adult characters facing complex moral dilemmas; a revolutionary turn-based combat system that transforms each encounter into a strategic dance full of tension; and a visually stunning world that masterfully blends Belle Époque with dark fantasy. The conversations at the campfires have made me laugh, cry, and reflect on life itself. Its bosses have challenged me like few games manage to do. And its soundtrack continues to resonate in my head weeks after finishing the adventure. More than a game, it's an interactive work of art that will remain in my memory for years. Without exaggeration, one of the best debuts from a studio that I've seen in decades as both a player and critic.

Elden Ring is the real next step for souls-like standards. It is unlike anything FromSoftware has created before, displaying an uncanny world that will keep on wowing players even as they pile up more and more hours of gameplay. Elden Ring is, thus, a prime candidate to become the 2022 GOTY.

God of War Ragnarök straight blows up your mind. It is a way better game than whatever you might imagine and it is definitely the best game in the whole franchise. It actually does it all: its narrative, story-wise, the characters or gameplay, and of course the visuals; it simply is outstanding. Being the best soulslike ever created, Lies of P is an absolute masterpiece that excels in all that it sets out to do; it boasts a captivating and intelligent reinterpretation of the fable of Pinocchio with magnificent and demanding combats where the level and bosses design is splendid. It also introduces a sublime and oppressive setting that makes you fall in love with each step you take, and the icing on the cake is a monumental soundtrack that boosts every single sensation. Never before has any video game captured the essence of FromSoftware with such prowess and personality, thus becoming one of the best titles of 2023.

God of War is an excellent game that has evolved with great quality in every aspect. The game feels more mature, profound and solid than we have ever seen in the saga. Its gameplay is still dynamic and its story will keep us in the edge of our seats from beginning to end. However, it lacks magic in some moments and has a few repetitive bosses, which does not allow this game to reach the perfect score.

Morbid Metal aims to be one of those games that stands out more for how it plays than for what it tells. Its real-time character-swapping system is what truly sets it apart, and if it manages to maintain variety and depth over the long term, it could become one of the most interesting roguelikes of its generation. A good Pokémon 'copy' that manages to pull off its own personality through the battle system but that, at the same time, carries an obvious problem: it really tries to be an MMORPG, yet in the end it stays as an open world with 'ghost' characters. Even so, overall it is a remarkable turn-based RPG that has a lot of potential. [Early Access Score = 75]
