The 10 Worst Video Games of 2021
Above are the lowest-scoring games released for any platform between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021. Games are ranked by Metascore (as of December 18, 2021) prior to rounding, and any titles with fewer than 7 reviews from professional critics are excluded. If a single title would have landed on the list multiple times due to low scores on more than one platform, we only included the lowest-scoring version.
Based loosely on the Lovecraftian board game Arkham Horror and its follow-ups, the 1920s-set Mother's Embrace doesn't attempt to duplicate the original gameplay but instead creates a new blend of RPG, strategy, turn-based combat, and investigation as you attempt to identify the murderer of an astronomy professor. Critics feel that Asmodee's game pales in comparison to the original, thanks to simplistic gameplay, an uninspired story, and a lack of replayability.
“Arkham Horror: Mother's Embrace suffers from a bland and unspectacular combat system, a questionable sanity gimmick, and a litany of technical issues that are too glaring to ignore. Although it's an adaptation of a board game, you might as well call it a 'bored game' due to the tedium and frustration you'll experience." —PC Invasion
