The Worst New TV Shows of 2019
What were the biggest television duds of the past year? Above are the lowest-scoring first-year primetime TV series (including limited series) debuting in the United States between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019. Shows are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades from top professional critics on a 0-100 scale) prior to rounding, and must have at least 4 reviews from professional critics.
(#9) The last time Jimmy Smits played a lawyer on NBC, the result was a hit. This time? Not so much. This Memphis-set legal procedural is certainly not 2019's worst show, but its unwillingness to depart from formula certainly left critics unexcited when it debuted in September. Viewers, too, appear to be uninterested, and the show seems unlikely to return in 2020.
“Generally the show feels like something David E. Kelley would have made and made better 20 years ago.” —Dan Fienberg, The Hollywood Reporter
