The Worst New TV Shows of 2018
What were the biggest television duds of the past year? Above are the lowest-scoring first-year primetime TV series (including limited series) debuting in the United States between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018. Shows are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades from top professional critics on a 0-100 scale) prior to rounding, and any programs with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded.
(#9) Lower-profile streaming series can easily slip through the cracks during this era of too-much-TV. But feel free to avoid seeking out this six-episode British import (a Hulu/BBC co-production) from Luther creator Neil Cross. Critics find it too grim and too unsure of what to do with its theoretically promising "pre-apocalyptic" premise that finds Agyness Deyn and Jim Sturgess starring as London cops who learn that the sun is dying and the human race could be extinct within five years.
“A drama shot through with pessimism and concerned a with quest for survival can be exhilarating and worthwhile. But Hard Sun contains so many contrivances and overwrought moments that the commitment of its cast and the potential of its premise are largely squandered.” —Maureen Ryan, Variety
