The Worst New TV Shows of 2018
What were the biggest television duds of the past year? Above are the lowest-scoring first-year primetime TV series (including limited series) debuting in the United States between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018. Shows are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades from top professional critics on a 0-100 scale) prior to rounding, and any programs with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded.
(#4) Four septuagenarians—three men and a rebellious female newcomer—navigate life in a retirement community that's filled with as many cliques as a high school in this Fox sitcom from the producers of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Critics feel the strong cast (David Alan Grier, Martin Mull, Vicki Lawrence, Leslie Jordan) deserves much better material, though the show has benefitted from the strong-ish ratings of its lead-in (Last Man Standing) and looks like it will be on the air at least until the end of the season.
“An abominable, grating, crass, predictable, and lazy new Fox sitcom.” —Matthew Gilbert, Boston Globe
