The Worst New TV Shows of 2018
What were the biggest television duds of the past year? Above are the lowest-scoring first-year primetime TV series (including limited series) debuting in the United States between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018. Shows are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades from top professional critics on a 0-100 scale) prior to rounding, and any programs with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded.
(#3) Adapting the beloved 1989 film Heathers never seemed like a good idea, but this series had a particularly difficult time finding its way to the small screen. Not only did it switch networks (from TV Land to Paramount), but it also was repeatedly delayed when real-life mass shootings made the prospects of airing a "comedy" about high school violence even more unappetizing. Heathers finally aired as a "miniseries" in the fall, with major edits made to the already completed series, but it didn't seem to be worth the effort.
“Heathers is hardly the first 30-year-old movie to receive a modern reboot, but it's hard to think of a more misguided re-conception, one that has updated the premise -- in a clumsy attempt to be provocative -- in wholly muddled and off-putting ways.” —Brian Lowry, CNN
