The Worst New TV Shows of 2018
What were the biggest television duds of the past year? Above are the lowest-scoring first-year primetime TV series (including limited series) debuting in the United States between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018. Shows are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades from top professional critics on a 0-100 scale) prior to rounding, and any programs with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded.
(#10) HBO veteran Alan Ball (Six Feet Under, True Blood) managed to completely befuddle critics with his latest series for the cable network. Starring Tim Robbins and Holly Hunter, Here and Now promised a darkly comedic look at contemporary society in the Trump era—and, in particular, two families in Portland, Ore.—with a potential supernatural twist (and literally explosive finale) thrown in for good measure. HBO opted to cancel the low-rated series after 10 episodes that critics mostly found to be self-important and lacking subtlety.
