The Worst New TV Shows of 2017
What were the biggest television duds of the past year? Above are the lowest-scoring first-year primetime TV series debuting in the United States between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017. Shows are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades from top professional critics on a 0-100 scale) prior to rounding, and any programs with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded.
(#4) Make no mistake: Critics certainly did not like Seth MacFarlane's new live-action sci-fi series when it launched this fall, finding the show caught somewhere between a Star Trek spoof and an earnest homage and succeeding at neither. That said, Metacritic users certainly like it, and viewership is strong enough that Fox renewed the series over a month ago.
“By playing it safe and showing a truly breathtaking lack of creativity, The Orville can’t even claim to be better than the myriad of Star Trek fan films that can currently be found on YouTube.” —Chris Cabin, Collider
