The Worst New TV Shows of 2017
What were the biggest television duds of the past year? Above are the lowest-scoring first-year primetime TV series debuting in the United States between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017. Shows are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades from top professional critics on a 0-100 scale) prior to rounding, and any programs with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded.
(#3) Of the two new sitcoms in CBS's Monday night lineup this fall, it was the (slightly) better one that got the ax first. But 9JKL may not be far behind. Created by and starring Mark Feuerstein, the comedy has been dismissed as an inferior Everybody Loves Raymond, and CBS opted to cap the first season at just 16 episodes rather than the usual 22.
“Everyone is far too involved in each other’s business, because that’s how sitcoms work, but the show’s screechy self-loathing makes that seem damning and toxic rather than just antic and fun.” —Margaret Lyons, The New York Times
