The Worst New TV Shows of 2022
What were the biggest television duds of the past year? In the gallery on this page we rank the lowest-scoring first-year primetime TV series (including limited series and specials) debuting in the United States between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022. Shows are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades from top professional critics on a 0-100 scale) prior to rounding based on scores from December 13, 2022 and must have at least 4 reviews from professional critics to qualify.
Fox delayed its country music soap Monarch from January until September, presumably to give it a better showcase in the fall season. But numerous cameos from real-life country stars (and a decent regular cast including Susan Sarandon, Anna Friel, Trace Adkins, Beth Ditto, Joshua Sasse, and Inigo Pascual) didn't do enough to distract from the poor writing and lack of substance noted by many critics, and Fox canceled the drama after 11 episodes aired.
“Because 'Monarch' ... doesn’t really dig beneath its 'Dallas”/”Dynasty' trappings, there are plenty of moments that ring false. When the performers are on stage, they seem real. When they’re insulting each other at home, they look phony.” —Bruce Miller, Sioux City Journal
