The 15 Worst Movies of 2019
Above are the lowest-scoring films released in the United States between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019. Films are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades given by top professional critics) prior to rounding, and any titles with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded. All scores are from December 22, 2019.
(#14) Actor James Franco has turned into a pretty prolific filmmaker over the past decade—but that's not a good thing. He has just one critically acclaimed film as a director: 2017's The Disaster Artist. His other features range from trifles to disasters, with this year's Zeroville falling closer to the latter category. The dramedy, which sat on the shelf for five years, is set in the same time and place (the summer of 1969 in Hollywood) as Quentin Tarantino's latest, and reunites Franco with his Freaks and Geeks co-star, Seth Rogen. The result is not quite a zero, but it's not far off.
“As a book, Zeroville was a profound and intoxicating testament to the mythic power of images. As a movie, Zeroville is a compelling reminder to spend more time reading.” —David Ehrlich, IndieWire
