28 The Aspern Papers

(#12) The feature film directorial debut for Julien Landais is an adaptation of the Henry James novel of the same name. Despite a decent cast (led by Vanessa Redgrave, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, and Joely Richardson) and the presence of the Ivory half of the legendary Merchant-Ivory production team, the result is "leaden" and "turgid," according to reviewers.
