The 15 Worst Movies of 2019
Above are the lowest-scoring films released in the United States between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019. Films are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades given by top professional critics) prior to rounding, and any titles with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded. All scores are from December 22, 2019.
(#12) The feature film directorial debut for Julien Landais is an adaptation of the Henry James novel of the same name. Despite a decent cast (led by Vanessa Redgrave, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, and Joely Richardson) and the presence of the Ivory half of the legendary Merchant-Ivory production team, the result is "leaden" and "turgid," according to reviewers.
“The movie is made even worse with embarrassing flashbacks, painful voiceover, and inane dream sequences. It’s like a Merchant-Ivory film – on Quaaludes.” —David Lewis, San Francisco Chronicle
