2018 TV Preview: 25 Shows to Watch This Winter

If you opt to heat up your winter months with television's warm, glowing, warming glow, you certainly won't run out of options. January and February will see the arrival of new shows from Steven Soderbergh, Alan Ball, Ryan Murphy, Ronald D. Moore, Cary Fukunaga, Alex Gibney, and more. Expect a pair of promising sci-fi shows, a new (but different) DC Comics series, the return of favorites like The X-Files, and even a cartoon look at the Trump presidency. 74 The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story: Season 1

Debuts January 17 on FX. Ryan Murphy originally planned for a Hurricane Katrina-themed season of his American Crime Story anthology series to follow 2016's wildly acclaimed The People v. O.J. Simpson. But with that season now being retooled (it should air in 2019), the anthology's second installment will instead focus on the 1997 murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace (played by Edgar Ramirez) in Miami. Darren Criss, Penelope Cruz, and Ricky Martin also star. The story, which will begin with Versace's death and then go backwards to fill in the details, is derived from Maureen Orth's book Vulgar Favors.
