2018 TV Preview: 25 Shows to Watch This Winter
If you opt to heat up your winter months with television's warm, glowing, warming glow, you certainly won't run out of options. January and February will see the arrival of new shows from Steven Soderbergh, Alan Ball, Ryan Murphy, Ronald D. Moore, Cary Fukunaga, Alex Gibney, and more. Expect a pair of promising sci-fi shows, a new (but different) DC Comics series, the return of favorites like The X-Files, and even a cartoon look at the Trump presidency. Preview each of the season's most promising new and returning shows in the gallery above.
Debuts January 19 on HBO. Somehow resisting the urge to hold the debut until April 20th, HBO will bring back the one-time web series for a second batch of cable episodes in mid-January. The New York-set anthology (which has only one character, a cannabis dealer played by series co-creator and occasional director Ben Sinclair, appearing in every episode, though a few others recur from time to time) is often mentioned as one of TV's under-the-radar gems by critics, with every episode presenting an acutely observed slice of modern life. (If you liked the recent Master of None episode "New York, I Love You," this is the show for you.) The upcoming episodes feature a mix of new (Jessica Hecht, Danielle Brooks) and returning (Yael Stone) guests.
