Winter TV Preview: 30 Notable New & Returning Shows
New year, new shows. In the gallery above, find our guide to the most promising new shows debuting in early 2019, plus some notable returning favorites.
▣ The Masked Singer debuts January 2 on Fox.
▣ The Titan Games debuts January 3 on NBC.
▣ America's Got Talent: The Champions debuts January 7 on NBC.
▣ The World's Best debuts February 3 on CBS.
Competition shows may not be the colossal ratings hits they once were, but that won't stop the networks from rolling out new titles—with some big names attached. The opening weeks of 2018 will bring three new examples, plus a new spinoff of a summer favorite.
Adapted from a South Korean hit, Fox's The Masked Singer (hosted by Nick Cannon) asks contestants to guess which celebrity is performing a song right in front of their eyes. While that may sound easy, the performer will be disguised in an elaborate costume. James Corden hosts CBS's new global talent competition, The World's Best, which features a big-name judging panel (Drew Barrymore, RuPaul, and Faith Hill) and a high-profile, post-Super Bowl launch. NBC, meanwhile, will counter with a new athletic competition, The Titan Games, produced and hosted by Dwayne Johnson. If you prefer something more familiar, NBC will also air its summer series America's Got Talent in the winter for the first time, via a Terry Crews-hosted "Champions" edition that returns top performers from past seasons as well as from various iterations of the Got Talent franchise around the world.
