Winter TV Preview: 30 Notable New & Returning Shows
New year, new shows. In the gallery above, find our guide to the most promising new shows debuting in early 2019, plus some notable returning favorites.
Debuts February 20 on IFC. The seven-episode "52nd" (aka third) season of the documentary spoof includes parodies of D.A. Pennebaker's Original Cast Album: Company, bowling doc League of Ordinary Gentlemen, and Marina Abramovic: The Artist Is Present. The season opens with a two-part take on the recent Netflix cult hit (in every sense of the phrase) Wild Wild Country titled "Batsh*t Valley." This season's cast includes Cate Blanchett, Michael C. Hall, Michael Keaton, Owen Wilson, Tim Robinson, Bobby Moynihan, Natasha Lyonne, and John Mulaney.
Bonus Pick: Looking for an actual (non-parodic) documentary series? Try BBC America's Dynasties (January 19), the latest big-budget nature series narrated by David Attenborough. Filmed over four years, the new series spends each of its five episodes focusing on one of the planet's endangered species, including emperor penguins, West African chimpanzees, and painted wolves.
