Winter TV Preview: 20 Notable Shows
Are you ready for not one, not two, but three different reinventions of the comic book TV series? How about period dramas starring Tom Hardy and Christina Ricci? A look at the life of another English queen, or a fictitious American pope? The return of The Good Wife and 24? Or perhaps all you need is a Series of Unfortunate Events.
Those concepts and more are headed to the small screen between now and early March. Find details on 20 noteworthy upcoming shows (both new and returning series, plus miniseries) below, ordered by date. And, for more premiere dates and details on every upcoming show (including those not profiled here), visit our 2017 TV Premiere Calendar.
In its quest to dominate the internet through original programming, Netflix seems open to trying anything and everything, including reviving long-dormant shows from decades past (with the poorly reviewed but successful Fuller House the most prominent example). Next up: One Day at a Time.
This remake of Norman Lear's 1970s multi-generational family sitcom is notable for two reasons. The first is that the family at the center of the show this time is Cuban-American, with a cast led by Justina Machado (Six Feet Under) and Rita Moreno. And the second is the involvement of Lear himself as a producer. It's the first series for the now 94-year-old TV legend since the 1990s.
