Winter TV Preview: The 25 Most-Anticipated Shows
If you suspect that TV networks seem to hold their best shows back until midseason these days, well, you're not wrong. This winter, for example, will bring returning (and critically acclaimed) favorites like The X Files and Better Call Saul, while also introducing brand new series from the likes of Louis C.K. and Zach Galifianakis, Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter, and Ryan Murphy, among others.
Below, we highlight 25 intriguing shows scheduled to debut in the months of January and February, listed in order by premiere date. (For information on other upcoming TV debuts in 2016, be sure to visit our TV Premiere Calendar.)
After debuting a year ago at Sundance to strong reviews, this animated series from the Duplass brothers was picked up by HBO, which will debut it next month just a few weeks before the return of their other HBO series, the live-action comedy Togetherness. Depicting a variety of talking animal characters living in New York City and exhibiting very adult, human-like problems, Animals features a stellar voice cast that includes Aziz Ansari, Mark Duplass, Adam Scott, Katie Aselton, Nick Kroll, Chelsea Peretti, Nathan Fielder, and Rob Corddry. The 10-episode series (created and written by newcomers Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano and playing like an indie comedy that happens to have an unusually large number of pigeons) will be followed by a second season next year.
