21 TV Shows to Watch This Summer
The coming summer, arguably, may not have the sheer volume of high profile shows that we have become accustomed to in recent years. But that certainly doesn't mean there won't be anything to watch. In fact, the highlights—led by the returns of Twin Peaks and Game of Thrones—include some of this year's most-anticipated shows regardless of season.
Below you can find details on the most notable TV debuts this summer (both new and returning shows), ordered by date. For more premiere dates and details on every upcoming show (including those not profiled here), visit our 2017 TV Premiere Calendar.
Getting a later than normal start (which takes the series out of Emmy contention this year), the penultimate season of HBO's hit will also run a shorter than normal seven episodes that will take the series well beyond George R.R. Martin's already published material. The good news? That shorter season means that HBO is spending more money per episode, which will translate into bigger and more frequent action sequences (plus plenty of White Walkers and dragons, who are now the size of 747s).
Joining the cast is Harry Potter veteran Jim Broadbent—as well as singer Ed Sheeran, in a cameo—while the season's only new director is Matt Shankman (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia).
