Summer TV Preview: 25 Notable Shows
In the gallery above, find details on the most noteworthy TV premieres coming this summer, including newcomers such as Castle Rock, Pose, Sharp Objects, and Jack Ryan, returning favorites like Arrested Development and Luke Cage, plus a handful of movies, miniseries, and specials.
Debuts May 29 on Netflix. One of the most beloved sitcoms in recent memory thanks to three stellar seasons on Fox, Arrested Development confused and disappointed some fans with a drastic switch to a more experimental structural approach for its belated fourth season (and first for Netflix) in 2013—a change necessitated by the unavailability of many of the cast members.
Five years later (almost to the day), the show returns for its just-announced fifth season, and this time every character will be present for every episode. Lindsay Bluth's Trump-like election campaign, a "Family of the Year" award, and the mysterious death of Lucille 2 (Liza Minnelli) are just some of the developments this season. The entire cast (including Jeffrey Tambor, who was recently removed from his other acclaimed series, Transparent) is back.
Speaking of that fourth season: Series creator Mitch Hurwitz recently re-edited the entire season into a very different but more conventional format (which means that you'll see more characters in each episode), and those 22 episodes are now streaming on Netflix. Critics seem to think the re-cut is an improvement over the original season 4.
