Although the crew has achieved its mission of boldly going where no one has gone before, the various films have had spottier levels of success, at least with critics.

So much could have gone wrong with the reboot of the beloved franchise. But director J.J. Abrams, known for his deft touch with characterizations, made everything right with the ultimate origin story for the rejuvenated, engaging, and hilarious Enterprise crew. Plus, he brought back original cast member Leonard Nimoy as an alternate-timeline Spock, which was a gift to devoted fans.
