Spring TV Preview: 25 Shows to Watch
Even without Game of Thrones (which doesn't return until summer), this is a loaded spring TV season. Some of the small screen's best shows—including Fargo, The Americans, Veep, Better Call Saul, Review, and the newly revived Mystery Science Theater 3000—return, joined by pedigreed newcomers like Iron Fist, American Gods, I Love Dick, Feud, and The Handmaid's Tale.
Below, browse the most notable new and returning shows debuting between now and mid-May, ordered by date. And for more premiere dates and details on every upcoming show (including those not profiled here), visit our 2017 TV Premiere Calendar.
New showrunner David Mandel already created a major challenge for himself and his writing staff by ending Veep's fifth season with Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) voted out of office. Then the real world intervened, treating the country to months of actual political headlines more unbelievable than any story a comedy writer could create.
So how will season six deal with these issues? The season will indeed begin with Meyer on the sidelines as a private citizen (though still aided by Tony Hale's Gary, Matt Walsh's Mike, and Sam Richardson's Richard Splett) and dealing with her legacy. The rest of the cast also returns, even if they won't always be working closely together anymore.
Note that fellow HBO comedy series Silicon Valley will once again air in front of Veep, though its season begins one week later (on April 23rd).
