Spring TV Preview: 20 Notable New & Returning Shows
In the gallery above, our editors pick out the most promising new shows debuting this spring, plus some notable returning favorites. They are listed in order by premiere date.
Debuts March 28 on NBC. Parks and Recreation/The Good Place producer Mike Schur finally makes good on his long-professed admiration for Cheers by producing his own NBC sitcom set inside a bar—though one that's in San Diego, not Boston. Created by Superstore/New Girl writer Josh Malmuth, Abby's follows the oddball regulars of an unlicensed drinking establishment in the backyard of a house run by the titular Abby (Natalie Morales). Neil Flynn also stars (extending his streak of 16 straight seasons as a TV series regular, which began with The Middle and Scrubs), as do Jessica Chaffin and Nelson Franklin. Unusually for a Schur show, it's a multi-camera sitcom filmed in front of a live audience, but—in what appears to be a first for any TV sitcom in history—both that audience and the stage are outdoors.
