Spring TV Preview: 20 Notable New & Returning Shows
In the gallery above, our editors pick out the most promising new shows debuting this spring, plus some notable returning favorites. They are listed in order by premiere date.
Debuts April 14 on HBO. You may be tired of waiting, but just remember: The sooner that April 14th gets here, the closer we are to the series being over for good. (That happens on May 19th, with the sixth and final episode of season 8.) Going almost entirely off-book (but theoretically adapting the mythical novels The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring), the HBO megahit's swan song has been billed as "six one-hour movies" by the network, with a scale so massive that it will make previous episodes look small in comparison. That should be especially true for a much-hyped Battle of Winterfell sequence (directed by Miguel Sapochnik) that took 55 nights to film. Sapochnik and David Nutter share directing duties for the season, though the finale episode is in the hands of series creators David Benioff & D. B. Weiss. How will it end? Well, probably with a bunch of Emmy awards in September. (And perhaps a prequel series next year.)
