Spring TV Preview: The 30 Most-Anticipated Shows
Does TV save its best shows for the end of its season? The answer may be yes, given that the next few months will see the returns of acclaimed programs like The Americans, Game of Thrones, Veep, and Catastrophe. There are also some promising newcomers headed to the small screen in the coming weeks, including several Netflix comedies, the latest from Shonda Rhimes, and a drama produced by Steven Soderbergh.
Below, we highlight 30 intriguing shows scheduled to debut between now and early May, listed in order by premiere date. (For information on other upcoming TV debuts, visit our TV Premiere Calendar.)
WGN's latest original series is a 19th century drama about the people behind the Underground Railroad. The ensemble cast features Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Aldis Hodge, Christopher Meloni, Jussie Smollett, Reed Diamond, and Marc Blucas, but the biggest name involved is probably John Legend, who provides original music and also serves as a producer. Also on board is Anthony Hemingway (The Wire), who directs the first four episodes.
