Spring TV Preview: The 30 Most-Anticipated Shows
Does TV save its best shows for the end of its season? The answer may be yes, given that the next few months will see the returns of acclaimed programs like The Americans, Game of Thrones, Veep, and Catastrophe. There are also some promising newcomers headed to the small screen in the coming weeks, including several Netflix comedies, the latest from Shonda Rhimes, and a drama produced by Steven Soderbergh.
Below, we highlight 30 intriguing shows scheduled to debut between now and early May, listed in order by premiere date. (For information on other upcoming TV debuts, visit our TV Premiere Calendar.)
Silicon Valley and Veep
Both return April 24 on HBO
Joining Game of Thrones with later-than-normal spring premieres are HBO's hit comedies about two worlds ripe for satire: the tech industry and the White House. Silicon Valley's third season adds Stephen Tobolowsky to the cast, while the story involves Thomas Middleditch's Richard Hendricks' quest to regain his CEO role at Pied Piper. Veep, meanwhile, will have to contend with the departure of series creator Armando Iannucci (though his former The Thick of It star Peter Capaldi is moving to Veep as a director). Taking Iannucci's place as showrunner is Curb Your Enthusiasm vet David Mandel.
