Spring TV Preview: The 30 Most-Anticipated Shows
Does TV save its best shows for the end of its season? The answer may be yes, given that the next few months will see the returns of acclaimed programs like The Americans, Game of Thrones, Veep, and Catastrophe. There are also some promising newcomers headed to the small screen in the coming weeks, including several Netflix comedies, the latest from Shonda Rhimes, and a drama produced by Steven Soderbergh.
Below, we highlight 30 intriguing shows scheduled to debut between now and early May, listed in order by premiere date. (For information on other upcoming TV debuts, visit our TV Premiere Calendar.)
Book readers will have to shed their sense of spoiler superiority over mere TV viewers as Game of Thrones heads into partially uncharted territory in its sixth season, since its primary source material—The Winds of Winter—has yet to be published. After disappearing for all of season 5, Isaac Hempstead Wright's Bran Stark returns in a big way this year (along with Hodor!), though everyone is being coy about whether or not Jon Snow (Kit Harington) will be back. New cast members include Max von Sydow, Ian McShane, Freddie Stroma, Richard E. Grant, Essie Davis, and Borgen's Pilou Asbæk, while the director corps will be supplemented by newcomers Jack Bender (Lost) and Daniel Sackheim (The Americans).
