Spring TV Preview: The 30 Most-Anticipated Shows
Does TV save its best shows for the end of its season? The answer may be yes, given that the next few months will see the returns of acclaimed programs like The Americans, Game of Thrones, Veep, and Catastrophe. There are also some promising newcomers headed to the small screen in the coming weeks, including several Netflix comedies, the latest from Shonda Rhimes, and a drama produced by Steven Soderbergh.
Below, we highlight 30 intriguing shows scheduled to debut between now and early May, listed in order by premiere date. (For information on other upcoming TV debuts, visit our TV Premiere Calendar.)
In its short first season, this Walking Dead companion series (not really a sequel, prequel, or spin-off, but a contemporaneous story set in the same world) didn't do quite enough to differentiate itself from the original. That should change in this much longer (15 episodes, divided between spring and fall) sophomore season which will take place in part at sea, with land scenes filmed on location in Baja, Mexico. Newcomers include Dougray Scott, while Colman Domingo (yacht-owner Victor Strand) will return in a more prominent role.
