Jon Bernthal stars as Julian Kaye—a role first portrayed by Richard Gere—in Showtime's series adaptation of Paul Schrader's 1980 movie of the same name. Tracing a somewhat similar story but from a different time perspective, the eight-episode series follows the one-time male escort Kaye after he completes a 15-year prison sentence for a murder that he didn't commit. Now, he must attempt to rebuild his life and find out who put him behind bars and why. Gretchen Mol, Rosie O'Donnell, Leland Orser, Lizzie Brocheré, and Gabriel LaBelle also star, while Wayne Brady and Melora Walters guest. The TV adaptation, which has been in development since 2016, comes from David Hollander (Heartland)—though he was removed as showrunner in April following a misconduct investigation—and is produced, like the film, by Jerry Bruckheimer.
