Movie debuts September 28 on Netflix
Netflix movies haven't exactly been collecting raves recently, but here's one that at least has the potential to do so. At the very least, it'll generate more awareness than the average Netflix film. Andrew Dominik (Killing Them Softly) directs an adaptation of the acclaimed 2000 novel by Joyce Carol Oates fictionalizing the tragic and complicated life of Marilyn Monroe. Ana de Armas (Knives Out) plays Monroe in a film designed to be provocative: It is Netflix's first film to receive an NC-17 rating. Bobby Cannavale, Julianne Nicholson, and Adrien Brody also star in the drama, which was originally targeting a 2020 theatrical release but (thanks to the pandemic) is now a streaming exclusive following a world premiere at the Venice Film Festival next week.
