Talk series debuts September 30 on Apple TV+
Former The Daily Show host Jon Stewart makes his return to television after a six-year break with a new weekly current affairs series for Apple TV+. Already renewed for a second season, The Problem appears to be formatted a bit like shows from Stewart's former colleagues John Oliver and Wyatt Cenac in that each episode will be devoted to a single big issue rather than the news of the week. Unlike Last Week Tonight, however, it won't just be Stewart talking: Each hour-long episode will feature conversations with people impacted by and working on the issue in question. Yes, you can expect a somewhat comedic approach to the material, though it may be a bit less comedy-focused than Stewart's prior gig, since showrunner Brinda Adhikari has a background in hard news (at CBS Evening News). A companion podcast will allow for further exploration of each topic.
