September Preview: 22 TV Shows & New Movies to Watch at Home
In the gallery above, our editors have selected the coming month's most promising TV shows (including limited series and specials) as well as movies available to watch at home through VOD and digital purchases, listed in order by premiere date. Many of these titles haven't been reviewed yet (and we haven't seen them), but they are the most intriguing new releases on paper, at least, arriving in September.
Seasons 1-3 stream September 1 on Netflix. Not only is it the best TV series ever made about Danish politics, it's one of the absolute best TV shows of the past decade in any language. And don't let the subject matter (or the subtitles) deter you. You won't need to understand the intricacies of coalition government to appreciate the nuanced and surprisingly addictive drama centering on Denmark's (fictional) first female prime minister and members of her staff, her family, and the press who cover her. And you may even recognize some faces in the excellent cast, including stars Sidse Babett Kundsen (Westworld's Theresa Cullen) and Pilou Asbæk (Euron Greyjoy on Game of Thrones).
Previously available in the States on the little-known LinkTV (and DVD), the highly bingeable, Peabody-winning series makes its streaming debut on Netflix this month in its entirety—and Netflix has commissioned a new 4th season which should debut in 2022. (It looks like Netflix will have a new English-language dub in addition to the subtitled original, but that just seems wrong.)
