12 Films to See in September
The fall movie season kicks off with new films from Darren Aronofsky, Mike White, Stephen Frears, and the duo of Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris—plus the highly anticipated Stephen King adaptation It. Get details on these and other noteworthy September film releases below.
After director Cary Fukunaga dropped out of his planned two-part adaptation of Stephen King’s It, Andrés Muschietti (Mama) stepped in to helm the project. The story takes place in Derry, Maine where a group of young kids—the "Losers’ Club"—must confront an evil clown who has been haunting the town for centuries.
Bill Skarsgård plays the creepy clown Pennywise, a role Tim Curry played in the 1990 TV mini-series, and the young cast includes Jaeden Lieberher (Midnight Special) and Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things). Early buzz is good, so odds are this will be the best King adaptation of 2017. (Of course, after The Dark Tower, that seems a manageable accomplishment.)
