For its 40th anniversary, Steven Spielberg's groundbreaking 1977 sci-fi film will return to theaters in digitally remastered 4K. Richard Dreyfuss stars as a power repairman who has an encounter with a strange aircraft, resulting in an obsession he can’t explain. On his search for the the truth, he joins up with a single mother (Melinda Dillon) looking for her abducted son, and encounters a scientist (Francois Truffaut) hoping to make a breakthrough in human-alien communication. Oddly, despite the "40th anniversary" label, the version that screens this week will be Spielberg’s extended director’s cut from 1980.
