Stephen Frears re-teams with his Philomena star, Judi Dench, for this story of the unlikely friendship between Queen Victoria and Abdul Karim (Ali Fazal), a clerk from India who visits England to participate in the Queen’s Golden Jubilee. Adapted by Lee Hall from a book by Shrabani Basu and also starring Olivia Williams, Michael Gambon, Eddie Izzard, Tim Pigott-Smith, and Simon Callow, the film will premiere in Venice this week.
