12 Films to See in September
With summer turning into fall, it is time for popcorn films to give way to more serious fare at the cineplex, though September won't be without its genre films—including a promising revival of the Blair Witch franchise. In anticipation of the month ahead, our editors have selected September's most noteworthy new movies, including new titles from Clint Eastwood, Andrea Arnold, Oliver Stone, Ron Howard, and a few intriguing debuts.
This genre-bending horror film follows Peter (Itay Tiran) as he arrives from England to marry his fiancée Zaneta (Agnieszk Zulewska) and move into her family’s home in rural Poland. While inspecting the house on the eve of his wedding, Peter falls into a pile of human remains, releasing a dybbuk, an ancient figure in Jewish folklore. Co-writer and director Marcin Wrona, who committed suicide prior to the film’s premiere last year, skillfully combines horror film and wedding comedy conventions to investigate his country’s lasting legacy of the Holocaust.
