Release date: late 2018 tbd
Sea of Thieves isn't the only pirate game due this year. Ubisoft's more serious entry in the genre is Skull & Bones, which looks like a (sea)worthy successor to Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
Due late this year for PS4, XB1, and PC, Skull & Bones is an open-world action game featuring tactical sea battles modeled after those in Black Flag. Set in 1721, the game will include a 5v5 mode among its online multiplayer options, while also featuring a single-player narrative campaign. In addition to ship-to-ship combat, you'll be able to board vessels and battle face-to-face. While some gameplay is the same, a key difference between the new game and Black Flag is an emphasis on the mechanics of how you sail—with wind playing a huge factor (as it should).
