Could this be 2018's Stardew Valley? This whimsical, cuter-than-cute indie from newcomer Meowza Games (whose founder worked on Bushido Bear) is an Animal Crossing-inspired title that is "about crafting crafts, eating eats, and catting cats." (We said it was whimsical.)
Set on a Japanese island overrun with felines (it's based on a real-world place, Tashirojima), the game tasks you with foraging in order to craft various items and then sell them at a one of the 16 markets held throughout the year. But, given the casual, open nature of the game, you don't have to do any of that; instead, you can spend your time exploring the island, playing mini-games, meeting people, going on quests, and taking in the local culture. Not enough cats for you? You can literally grow more by planting them in the ground.
