Series creator Hideo Kojima may have moved on to other projects, but his 30-year-old stealth series continues nevertheless. Konami's first installment since Kojima's departure after the excellent Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in 2015 is a co-op survival game set (at least in part) between the events of Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes.
But the protagonist of those titles, Snake, is nowhere to be found; instead, you create a custom character and attempt to eke out a survival with few supplies and a constant zombie threat. Oh, and your soldier has been sucked through a wormhole into an alternate timeline, and must find a way back home.
Zombies? Wormholes? That doesn't sound a whole lot like Metal Gear. And an early trailer didn't exactly receive a warm reception from fans. Nor will those fans be happy with Survive's always-online requirement (even in single-player mode), the presence of microtransactions, or the revelation that the campaign may be as short as 15 hours. So Konami may have a lot to prove when the new game releases next month for PS4, XB1, and PC.
