Movie debuts October 1 on HBO Max
David Chase returns to the world of his hit HBO series The Sopranos with this feature film prequel set in the late 1960s and '70s. Michael Gandolfini inherits the role of (a much younger) Tony Soprano from his late father, while Alessandro Nivola, Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga, Leslie Odom Jr., and Corey Stoll also star. Written by Chase and directed by fellow Sopranos vet Alan Taylor, the film has collected good but not great early reviews—if you are a Sopranos fan, you should probably lower your expectations a bit before watching—but nearly every critic thinks the younger Gandolfini shines. The film will stream for one month on HBO Max in conjunction with its theatrical release.
