Horror series debuts November 19 on Netflix
Created by Train to Busan director Yeon Sang-ho and his collaborator, illustrator Choi Kyu-seok, Hellbound is a live-action adaptation of the pair's digital comic The Hell (also released in print in English by Dark Horse as The Hellbound). The Korean horror series is set in a world where angels suddenly appear on earth to warn sinners that they are condemned to suffer a violent death. They do indeed, and not only at the hands of the supernatural: A religious organization called The New Truth also begins to punish those who aren't righteous—aided in part by the reports of an internet "journalist." In the midst of growing chaos and violence, a few people try to battle all three forces and protect the hellbound. The first few episodes screened at TIFF in September, and the reception was generally positive, though some reviewers noted concern that the show that appears to change its focus (and even genre) at multiple points.
