15 Films to See in November
In a month filled with potential best picture nominees (most notably, Manchester by the Sea and Arrival), potential blockbusters (like Doctor Strange, Disney's Moana, and Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), and intriguing works by auteurs like Tom Ford, Warren Beatty, and Paul Verhoeven, there should be no shortage of films to see in theaters. Check out the 15 most promising titles headed to the big screen in November in the gallery below.
In January, writer-director Kenneth Lonergan returned to Sundance 16 years after he winning the Grand Jury Prize and Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award for his debut feature You Can Count On Me. Only his third film as director (his second was the long-delayed Margaret in 2011), Manchester by the Sea was the best-reviewed film of the festival (and is still one of this year's highest-scoring films). This tale of grief follows Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck) as he returns to his hometown following the death of his brother (Kyle Chandler) and finds himself appointed the legal guardian of his nephew (Lucas Hedges). The strong supporting cast includes Michelle Williams, Matthew Broderick, Gretchen Mol, Tate Donovan and Kara Hayward.
