Most Anticipated Video Games of 2016, Part 2: New IP and Indie Releases
Earlier this week, we previewed the most-anticipated videogame sequels and remakes coming in 2016. Now, it's time to look at a second batch of games that may be even more important to the future of gaming: brand-new IP. These newcomers may not yet have the name recognition that the established franchises have earned, but will hopefully bring something fresh and original to game consoles (and PCs) this year.
Another (quite successful) Kickstarter project, Yooka-Laylee is billed as a spiritual successor to 1998 N64 platformer Banjo-Kazooie and is being developed by much of the same team, having moved on from Rare to their new studio, Playtonic. You play as two characters in this humorous, retro 3D platformer: the sensible chameleon Yooka (whose tongue functions like a grappling hook), and the crazier bat Laylee (who can fly and carry objects). Each can acquire other talents by purchasing extra abilities from the pants-wearing "business-snake" Trowzer.
