Most Anticipated Video Games of 2016, Part 2: New IP and Indie Releases
Earlier this week, we previewed the most-anticipated videogame sequels and remakes coming in 2016. Now, it's time to look at a second batch of games that may be even more important to the future of gaming: brand-new IP. These newcomers may not yet have the name recognition that the established franchises have earned, but will hopefully bring something fresh and original to game consoles (and PCs) this year.
After years in development, Ubisoft's new open-world, multiplayer shooter/action/RPG game—which bears the Tom Clancy brand but doesn't belong to any existing series—finally appears to have a firm release date. The genre-spanning game is set in a near-future New York just after a pandemic has spread rapidly across the country, causing widespread chaos and the collapse of the federal government. (You play as one or more of many government sleeper agents charged with restoring order.) Most of the city is open to cooperative exploration and looting, but various walled-off "Dark Zones" call for you to compete both with and against other players to extract items of higher value.
