Most Anticipated Video Games of 2016, Part 2: New IP and Indie Releases
Earlier this week, we previewed the most-anticipated videogame sequels and remakes coming in 2016. Now, it's time to look at a second batch of games that may be even more important to the future of gaming: brand-new IP. These newcomers may not yet have the name recognition that the established franchises have earned, but will hopefully bring something fresh and original to game consoles (and PCs) this year.
Star Citizen isn't just the largest crowdfunded project in history (surpassing $100 million in contributions last month); it's also, theoretically, a videogame. But that never-ending funding has slowed development as new features get added to the project, though a full launch in 2016 is still the plan. When complete, the ambitious 30th century space simulation will feature a number of components, including Star Marine (a tactical FPS with several modes and settings, including one in zero gravity), a massive, persistent online universe with mining and trading, and Squadron 42, a single-player campaign featuring the voices of Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Mark Hamill, Andy Serkis, and Ben Mendelsohn.
