Documentary miniseries debuts May 2 on CNN. Who doesn't like TV about TV? CNN's six-part docuseries traces the history of one of the small screen's most enduring genres: the late-night comedy talk show. Will there be an entire episode devoted to the much-chronicled battle between David Letterman and Jay Leno to succeed the legendary Johnny Carson as the host of The Tonight Show? You can count on it—in fact, it spans two episodes. But Carson himself gets his own episode, as does his predecessor (and original Tonight Show host) Steve Allen. Later hours focus on more recent hosts from Conan O'Brien to Desus and Mero as well as the trend toward more news-oriented formats like The Daily Show. Somehow, Thicke of the Night didn't seem to make the cut.
