14 Films to See in May
Hollywood's summer movie season officially kicks off in May, and that means the arrival of big-budget fare such as a Guardians of the Galaxy sequel and Ridley Scott's latest Alien scarefest. But you can also expect a number of promising indie films, including some recent film festival favorites, timely documentaries about Syria, Julian Assange, and a key Trump advisor, and Amber Tamblyn's well-reviewed directorial debut. Get the details on the month's most intriguing films below.
This sequel to Prometheus (and the 6th chapter in the 38-year-old Alien franchise) picks up after Dr. Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and David (Michael Fassbender) have searched the galaxy for the Engineers. A new crew (Katherine Waterston, James Franco, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, and Benjamin Rigby) with plans to colonize a distant planet makes a fateful stop at an uncharted paradise only to run into the least friendly aliens in movie history.
Director Ridley Scott has more Alien movies planned, so let's hope this one is an improvement on the last.
